Wager

The following pieces are sculptural blocks. Each side is covered with a playing card, photograph, journal entry, or letter fragment. All of these were found items from neighborhoods in Midtown, Farish, or West Jackson.

Historically some believe that the suits of cards represent the four classes: Spades represent nobility, hearts stand for the clergy, diamonds represent merchants, and clubs are peasants. I have intermingled the card imagery with that of very intimate personal documentation, a contrast between the large categories that are used to classify people and the lives of specific individuals.
